Kate Rose has loved and lost. Since her runaway marriage was annulled, she has shut herself away from society, much to the chagrin of her social climbing mother. Now she has to resign herself to the marriage arranged by her father.

Michael, Lord Falconridge, is at the end of his rope. In order to fund his mother’s care and his estates, he is forced to auction himself off to one of the wealthy Americans looking to buy a title for his daughter.

Lord Falconridge has auctioned himself off to the highest bidder and is now forced to live with the results. He has a wife who wants love and he does not know what love feels like. Kate has some secrets of her own that might threaten the marriage.

Kate is a great character. She has been raised with the advantages of both sexes. Her mother taught her how to behave in society and her father taught her everything he knew about making and investing money, which is quite a lot. She was disappointed in her marriage to Wesley, but he broke her heart when he married another. Michael has lived in a very cold world without any love at all and does not know what to do with Kate. It is very funny to read about him trying to guess her favorite color. I loved his efforts to win her love and his confusion when he becomes jealous of Wesley. The subplot of Jenny and Louisa’s brother is also interesting and will make a great story of its own. The author weaves a very engrossing plot and captures the era and its people very well.
