Matilda's heart was breaking the day she had to leave her family behind and escape with her cousin William. Sir Loric had been promised Matilda's hand in marriage by the Earl that ruled over the land where Matilda's family lived. To escape this fate Matilda and William will pretend to be wed to save her from marrying a man that she does not want.

Lord Geoffrey de le Werreiur of Greystone cannot believe his eyes when he first sees Matilda. He demands first night rights from William. William cannot turn down the baron's demand. But when Geoff gets his wish, his one night of passion turns into an obsession that he cannot deny.

Matilda tries hard to forget her one night of love with Geoff, but his touch still burns her every time she thinks of him. Geoff and Matilda try hard to fight the growing passion and need that seems to be growing between them, but they cannot seem to stay away from each other. Things turn even worse when Geoff's sister discovers their secret and does everything in her power to make sure Geoff leaves Matilda alone. But will the sisters scheming spell the end for Matilda or will Geoff finally see the light and offer her more than just a few nights of pleasure?

Lord Geoffrey's over bearing nature and Matilda's strong will are a wonderful blend of chemistry rarely seen in writing. This story really shows the class struggle and the hardships people had to overcome to love outside of their social status. The story is very well written. You will laugh, cry, hold your breath, and cheer with these characters. I found myself pulled right into this story from the first page, and was sad when I realized I had read the last word. Matilda's Song is one of the best books I have read this year.
