Joah was kidnapped by the government to be trained as a soldier and made into a killing machine. He has lost everything, his memories, his life, his husband. The only thing he has left is the thought of his name and that he belonged somewhere. He manages to escape and begins searching for someone who might know him.

Tobin is Joah’s husband and has barely been living during the five years that Joah has been gone. He fears the worst but still holds onto a glimmer of hope that Joah will return someday. When Joah happens to stumble at Tobin's feet hurt and confused, Tobin believes that his love can bring back everything Joah has lost.

As Tobin and Joah are reunited in a sad sort of way, they find they have many obstacles to overcome. Joah has no memory of their life before he was taken and he has a microchip in his head that can kill him over time. They take the chance of removing it, hoping to spare Joah’s life but knowing the results may be worse than death.

Persistence of Memory is a hang-on-to-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of book. You are always wondering what is coming next. You feel the love that Tobin and Joah once shared and root for them to overcome the horrible things that have been put in their path. I highly recommend this exciting yet tender love story.
