Rebecca grew up the daughter of the Sheriff, so she did not date much in high school. When Luke asked her out she was thrilled and soon fell in love and thought that he felt the same, until she found out about the dare, and that she was pregnant.

Luke did initially take Bec out because he friends dared him to, but soon fell in love with her. He was devastated when she found out and dumped him, and soon after joined the army and did not come back for sixteen years.

Despite years and distance Bec and Luke never got over each other. When Luke returns after sixteen years in the service, all of the old feelings are still there. Bec is keeping a big secret from Luke, his fifteen year old son, but he has even more surprises in store.

This is an enjoyable story if a little melodramatic. Luke and Bec are appealing characters with a lot of charisma, and Shane is a chip off the old block. Apparently this is part of a series and Luke and Bec’s friends are featured in other stories also. Luke and Bec’s story is a good tale of old lovers reconnecting, not without some difficulties. I did find that the amount of secrets thrown at him in a very short time to be excessive for a man recovering from a head injury, but it added to the drama. The subplots of Henry and Lucy’s marital troubles, and Hank’s general ornery behavior added depth to the story. There is a weekly poker game between the male characters for those that are into that sort of thing also. This is a good love story with well written dialogue and an easy to follow plot.
