Snow Ashley Gable suffered a terrible loss sixteen years ago. After a miscarriage, she suffered a crippling depression. She has now picked up the pieces of her life and become a successful radio personality. It is now time for her to go home to Chicago, but someone does not want her there.

Luke Kilcannon was an abused child. The one bright spot in his horrific childhood was his friendship with Snow Gable. He loved her and the child they created, but he lost them both one snowy night. Snow is back in town and he wants to know why she disappeared.

Snow Gable returns to Chicago to begin her new job and face her past. Some people are happy to have her back, but a few are threatened by her return for reasons of their own. Snow’s return starts a chain of events that could lead to disaster.

Snow and Luke’s romance is a bright spot in this book. They both have truly bleak childhoods, especially Luke, but rely on each other and their secret friendship. When Snow loses Luke’s friendship, she also loses all her confidence, only to regain it in school activities. Luke uses the sport he hates as a way out, only to stay on his own terms. Vivian and Mira are scarred by uncaring parents; it is nice to see Vivian finally growing up. The subplot of the flood survivor Wendy and Dr. Vail add a lot to the story. I had a little trouble getting into the plot at first, but after the first two chapters I was sucked in and could not put the book down.
