After almost forty years of marriage, Martha Winslow finds herself a widow when husband Harry dies of a massive coronary. Now alone, she ends up losing her house and quickly learns that survival is not easy for a widow.

Cathy Roberts, Martha’s roommate and good friend from college, started her own company after getting her accounting degree. She gives Martha an open invitation to her home in Crystal Lake, Missouri.

Martha is hit with a hard blow after her husband dies, feeling extreme sorrow. To make matters worse, she is forced to sell her home and some treasured possessions to continue to live. After Cathy hears the difficulty Martha has to endure, she invites her for a visit. Cathy has always been independent and a financial success, whereas Martha’s life was sheltered and protected. Martha accepts, hoping that the trip will give her time to get over her loss and perhaps build a new life. Unfortunately, Martha has always been innocent and trustworthy with people, especially around men, so when she happens to accept the kindness of a stranger, she begins to see things differently. But this time she may be too late.

The Friendship Circle is a story about friends who reach out to one another. Martha has to learn much in life after losing her husband, but she always has the strength of her friend, Cathy. While trying to endure hardships and stay strong in her beliefs, Martha also learns the hard way about trust when her vulnerability and kindness takes control. Ms. Hodapp tells a story about love, loss, and faith. This reader could relate tremendously with the loss of a loved one after so many years, and trying to learn to rebuild a new life alone. She pens a good read.
