Lawton Caine, once, Tom Lawton, did not think of himself as a former FBI agent that had slid into the rabbit-hole environment of Office 119. When Chancellor Vogel is killed, Caine returns to his role as an agent.

Renate Bächle lost everything, and it was all thanks to Office 119. Once known as Gretchen Zeitgenbach, a skilled forensic accountant, she now has a new identity. After the death of her best friend and her parents, she is recruited by Office 119, She knows they will never allow her to be a woman.

German Chancellor Vogel was a voice of reason in his political party but he had many enemies. It did not come as a surprise to many when he was killed by an assistant. With his death, civilian threats begin pouring into Europe, as Heads of State call on the protection of Office 119. Lawton and Renate are forced to find a conspirator who desires to have Europe’s nations in a deadly power struggle. With the chaos breaking out after the chancellor’s death, other European leaders are threatened. Many of the Germans believe that the Muslims are behind the attack and want to remove them from Germany. As part of the Office 119, Lawton and Renate realize they have the resources to avert several of the attacks that are about to take place but deciding which ones are the highest priority will be the hardest part, before Europe and other more volatile nations plunge into a war. In the meantime Steve Lorenzo, a priest, and his bodyguard, Miguel Ortiz, desperately try to safeguard a sacred ancient codex before it gets in dangerous hands and that wish to devise more devastating attacks. The question that remains, can Renate, Lawton and the others of Office 119, abort a war before it is too late.

The Jericho Pact is non-stop action from the first page to the last. The colorful cast brings so much tension I was drawn into the action like a magnet pulls iron. I found many moments with Lawton and Renate remarkably engaging. When Renate was in the helicopter, and counting down the hours, I could visualize the slow motion she felt. Rachel Lee tells a brilliant story of the powers in charge doing their best to stop a full-scale war before many other lives are lost. With a legion of characters, she sketches an on-going investigation to stop a full-blown war from getting out of hand. The twists and turns have a way of allowing the reader to experience in the search. I was blown away by the ending and look forward to more of her Office 119 series.
