Sophie Markham, a reporter, has tried to accept for five years that her sister and niece are really gone, but still in the back of her mind, she wonders could someone have saved Robin from the flames. After seeing another child that bears the same birthmark as Robin, the reporter side in Sophie begins her own investigation.

Gary Barksdale is attending the fund-raiser for SIDS when he spots Sophie doing the live report. He lost a nephew six years ago and he wishes to offer his support. He soon learns the old feelings he once had for Sophie never disappeared as they unite to search answers concerning her niece.

Sophie is in the middle of doing a live report on sudden infant death syndrome, when she spies a little girl that has the same exact birthmark as her niece who supposedly died in a fire. She finds it strange that another child could have the same identical mark, and the child would be the same age as Robin. It was like seeing a ghost, then she sets her eyes on Gary, another vision so real from her past and still after seven years the loaded impact she once felt for Gary still abounds. Remembering the issues that he had written for the Philadelphia Inquirer, on the kidnapping and recovery of a local child, she reluctantly asked for his help. Gary finds it hard to believe that he faces Sophie after seven long years. He has no desire to make any connection with her again, nor feel anymore hurt. Yet after all these years, she still sends an effect through him like a fire that cannot be quenched. After she enlists his help to do some investigation on her niece, they are suddenly drawn together. Someone out there has a past to protect, with two murders to cover up and a kidnapping to explain, and until that person is found, Sophie and Gary, have to focus on one thing, finding that person before any more harm comes to light. One thing is certain; Gary intends on making sure Sophie stays safe and secure in his presence.

Without A Doubt is a page turner with the right amount of mystery and romance to keep the reader guessing until the last page. Sophie and Gary are delightful characters that give great creditability to the story while drawing in the reader with every scene. Ms. Long composes a read with twist and turns and utter excitement that this reader found absolutely intriguing. The sharp writing and smooth flow of the words carries the reader into the momentum of the storyline, allowing all the emotions of the characters to sprinkle with much tenderness. I was delightfully pleased with this breathtaking story.
