Judith Flynn is the owner of a bed and breakfast in her family home. She is married to her first love and second husband, Joe. She is also known as FASTO and is rapidly gaining fame as an amateur sleuth.

Renie Jones is Judith’s cousin and sidekick. She is a graphic designer and married to Bill, a semi-retired psychologist. She is Judith’s total opposite and her best friend.

January is usually the slow season at Hillside Manor, but a generous impulse at a church auction has Judith looking forward to a houseful of Paines. In the meantime, her husband is accused of murder, a guest appears and disappears, and so does Joe.

Fans of this series are going to enjoy the continuing adventures of Judith and Renie, but newcomers will find this novel a bit confusing. There are too many subplots and characters, and I found the characters difficult to like at times. The ending comes out of nowhere with no good clues leading up to it. The dialogue is brisk and witty, and the author’s sharp sense of humor makes up for a great deal, but I found the ending disappointing.
