Casey Wheeler is desperate to get away from husband, Jerry, who is abusive and unfaithful. Taking daughter, Maddy, she leaves, but driving in stormy weather causes a slight accident, bringing her to a nearby mortuary.
Merman Patterson works at the Golden Folks Funeral Home, a family home business. He does not mind lending help to Casey.
Casey’s main concern is daughter, Maddy. After seeing her husband with another woman, Casey has had enough. Going home to see her parents is out of the question. When she turns to the mortuary for help, they have a job opening with room and board that Casey accepts. Everything seems to go well until Jerry decides to turn the tables on her and let people think she is the alcoholic and the one cheating. Casey will not tolerate this. When she meets Oliver, who is a doctor, and helps out at the mortuary, she feels safe with him. For once in her life, she is falling in love for real and it is a most exhilarating feeling. Unfortunately, telling Oliver about her past may not be that easy.
I was completely inspired by All The Wrong Places. This semi-autobiographical novel by Rebecca Fisher is an instant page-turner. It made me want to jump into the pages and pull Maddy and Casey out and offer help. I could actually feel the heartache as Casey stood in front of her father. Ms. Fisher has given us a story demonstrating heart-wrenching pain that grabs and holds the audience until the dramatic conclusion. She endures such a horrific life growing up and then when she marries. I could feel all the wide emotions she showed in the story. Undeniably, this read will grab the heart and soul and allow the reader to believe in the human race.
