Kayla is a beautiful and determined young woman who wants to help those less fortunate. She also wants her father’s approval.

Ryan is committed to his teen and construction ministries. He never expected to see the woman he fell for so unexpectedly again.

Kayla thought she had found her calling working with the street children of a third world country. When she is sent home due to illness, she cannot go back to her father who will see her as a failure, so she stays with her Great-Aunt Lavender in North Carolina. Unexpectedly, she meets the man she blames for her return. He and her aunt stand by her through her illness, but she may not be able to overcome her resentment over the changes in her life.

I enjoyed this story. The characters are very strong, and I especially liked the romance novelist cum guardian angel Lavender Bloom and her subplot. The inspirational aspect of the novel was a bit heavy-handed, as was little Jose’s story, and I would have liked some actual closure between Kayla and her very unlikable father. This is a sweet story that should be clearly labeled as inspirational, which fits it better than contemporary romance.
