Historical Romance
Rating: 4 Cups

Rose Lancaster has lived a rather quiet life behind the walls of Hope Abbey. She has been there since the age of three and is definitely not suited to the life of a nun. The beautiful redhead waits to come of age and gain her freedom.

Ruark Kerr, Lord Roxburghe is also known as the Black Dragon. He has spent most of the last thirteen years as a privateer and is only home to free his brother from Lord Hereford, his enemy.

Ruark is home in Scotland to free his young brother from the evil Lord Hereford. To do this, he must have a bargaining chip. His old friend at Hope Abbey holds the best one of all, Hereford’s daughter, Roselyn. The plan seems simple, but Rose is anything but simple. She is beautiful and challenging and everything Ruark could wish for, but cannot have.

Rose and Ruark’s story will have you engrossed from the beginning. The descriptions of both people and places bring the era to life, and the plot is exciting and full of romance. Rose and Ruark are larger than life characters and even I was a little in love with Ruark by the story’s end. Hereford is a great villain with no redeeming characteristics, the kind you will love to hate. The other characters are equally well written. Rose’s efforts to win over the castle residents as well as the action scenes and love story make this an exceptionally good read.
