An anonymous letter with a rather cryptic message is much too intriguing for Lawrence Kingston to ignore. He almost wishes he has when he meets the note's creator.

He can talk until he is blue in the face, yet Andrew knows there is no dissuading his friend when he is caught up in a mystery.

Lawrence cannot quite believe he is agreeing to work for Morley. But the money is almost too good to pass up. Add to that an unsolved murder and a two hundred-year-old mystery, and Lawrence is caught. Hook, line and sinker. Family feuds, dead bodies and a coded message tucked away for generations sucks Lawrence into its spell, despite the danger signs. Andrew knows it is a losing battle trying to talk Lawrence out of continuing. All he can do is stick close and hope they both do not end up in jail or worse.

Mr. Eglin strikes quite the picture of an English gentleman with Lawrence Kingston. You can almost smell the green and feel the cool moist air that surrounds Lawrence wherever he goes. As he works on the code, however, and slogs through interview after interview, Kingston, as well as the reader, begins to feel rather bogged down. In my opinion, it is Lawrence's many and varied talents that make this story work, keeping you guessing which clue he will unearth next.
