Karly Bane is the daughter of a pirate, and her uncle has sold her to a less than attractive baron. She is now on the run from him and desperate to recover a miniature of her father that her selfish uncle has gambled away.

Warrick Barry is a privateer and a Marquis. He is handsome and honorable and utterly determined to fulfill his mission.

Warrick Barry has been assigned to find a traitor and disband a smuggling ring. He and the Crown believe that Karly is the key to solving the mystery, and Warrick is ordered to marry the dark-haired beauty. Karly has secrets but is no traitor and is determined to keep her heart safe from the man who is trying to seduce her for her secrets as well as her heart.

Fans of historical romance will not be able to put this book down. The author has given us a gripping tale of suspense, intrigue and romance. Warrick and Karly are wonderful characters who fall in love in spite of themselves. The background of pirates and privateers and exotic locales enhance the exciting plot. The author has a good grasp of the time period and its people and does a wonderful job of bringing them to life. I often felt like I was right in the middle of the action and loved every minute of this exciting story.
