Historical Romance
Rating: 3 Cups

Gillian, Baroness Chauncey, is a beautiful former actress. Her husband works for the Crown as a spy in addition to his role in society. She still longs for her first love.

Lord Simon Danbury is the son of a duke and a former naval officer. His mission in life is to keep England safe. He gave away the love of his life to that end.

Gillian is forced to return to London when her husband dies before completing his latest mission. In order to keep England safe, she must neutralize a plot to assassinate Lord Horatio Nelson. The mission must come before grief over her dead husband and the reawakened feelings she has for her first love, Simon.

This story has the potential to be a really good historical romance. My rating is on the assumption this is a prequel to a series yet to be published. We are introduced to many characters and a plan is made, but there is no real resolution to any of the situations in the plot. The hero is less than honorable; he is still married at the end of the book, making his sacrifice in giving Gillian up in the first place rather worthless. Lord Nelson himself is not as heroic as he should be. Hopefully the loose ends will be tied up in future installments.
