Dr. Megan Harper has quit her job and moved back into her childhood home. She is driven by the fact she could not save her sister. Her younger sibling suffered from the genetic disease xeroderma pigmentosum and even though she could not save her, Megan continues her research in the hopes of saving others from the devastating effects of living with the light sensitivity disorder.

Vincent Maxwell is a centuries old vampire who wants nothing more than to cure himself of his affliction. He longs to be human again and lives with the regret of turning his best friend into a monster like himself. When he learns that Dr. Harper has discovered a link to vampirism, he is determined to befriend the lovely woman in the hopes of achieving his remedy.

After writing some hypothetical research papers on vampirism and its connection to light sensitivity disorders, Dr. Megan Harper is appalled to learn her boss believes the mythological creatures are real and plans on creating his own super-soldier for the government. She is even more surprised after meeting Vincent to discover vampires are indeed real and that her former company has been conducting experiments on them. Can she help Vincent stop this covert research and development experimentation before he becomes the next test subject? Is it possible to cure his dark disease and give them the chance for a lifetime together?

Lilly Gayle presents in a detailed, accurate manner a rational paranormal romance. The two main characters in this story jump right off the pages and engage the reader. Who cannot feel for a sexy vampire with a conscience? How can you keep from falling head over heels for this ultimate, sensitive, bad boy? And if that isn't enough to make your heart flip, what about when he admires her gray hairs? Megan is such an easy woman to relate to; she is heartbroken and strong, lonely and independent. I couldn't help but admire her as I cheered this couple on. I enjoyed all of the characters, especially Sonia. I would love to see her get her own story. I found the description of scientific research to be fantastic. I wish my high school chemistry classes had been as interesting. This is a must-read for those who like their paranormals to feel entirely possible.
