Clare Cosi has a lot going on in her life. She is the head barista and manager of the Village Blend coffeehouse, a business she runs alongside her ex-husband, Matt, and his mother, Madame. When you toss in her boyfriend, Mike Quinn, an NYPD detective, and a new mystery to solve, Clare is working hard.

Michael Quinn is the first cousin of Clare’s beau. He is also the captain of FDNY Ladder Company 189. Trying to get a rise out of his cousin, Michael puts the moves on Clare while she is trying to get information about the suspicious fires concerning New York coffeehouses.

Someone is firebombing New York coffeehouses. It begins with the coffeehouse of Madame’s friend, Lorenzo. Clare and Madame are paying Lorenzo a visit when the firebomb goes off, injuring one of Clare’s baristas and trapping Madame and Lorenzo in the basement. Clare becomes suspicious when more coffeehouses go up in flames. A mysterious package is left for Clare at Village Blend, giving her a message to back off her civilian investigation. Now, there is the added problem of a couple of Ladder Company 189 firemen dying. Who is behind it all?

I smiled when I read the title for the first time. What a wonderful play on words! This is the ninth book in the Coffeehouse Mystery series, but, as someone who has never read another in the series, I’ll say this one can stand alone. Clare is a feisty lady who sticks her nose in where it is often not welcome, but she gets her guy, one way or another. I loved the way Clare’s mind works out the solutions to the problems going on around her. Her theories were not always correct, but she has friends who help her out. Ms. Coyle has a writing style which does not talk down to the reader, but instead makes them part of the story.
