Most people would assume that getting out of Afghanistan and coming home is what every soldier dreams of, but not for Staff Sergeant Will MacIntyre. The Marines and his EOD team are his life, so not being able to go back scares him more than anything.

All through high school Olivia Eklund assumed her life would go as planned: get her doctorate, marry her high school sweetheart, and have the perfect family. When the Marines tore that plan apart, Olivia put all of her focus on her career.

The years away have shown Will that he has no place in the civilian world, so healing and getting back to his team must be his top priority, not the girl who stole his heart a lifetime ago. Staying away from Olivia; however, is much easier said than done. Especially when just being near her helps quiet the demons in his head. Seeing how much Will wants to get back to his team breaks Olivia’s heart, but if there is a way to help him heal she will do it. She survived loving and losing him once, she is almost certain she can do it again.

Only another soldier can understand how hard it must be for someone like Will to face the uncertainty of a future without the only life he has known. His fear of failing is his biggest hurdle, and as much as Olivia hates the idea of him going back to war she cannot stand by and not help. It would be too easy to fault her for selfishness, yet Olivia never lets him give up. Even knowing how much it is going to hurt in the end. I like that Olivia and Will’s story is not all about a conquering alpha male, but more of a personal quest to find the man within the soldier.
