Heloise Merrill is not a beauty like her cousin, but she is loyal to the family who took her in when her own parents died. She is resigned to remaining a spinster for the rest of her life.

Sebastian Caldwell, Earl of Blythe, is a notorious rake and a frequent visitor to Chateau Follet, where he is known to partake of every debauched activity offered therein.

Heloise is determined to save her younger cousin Josephine from ruin when she intercepts an invitation to a weekend at Chateau Follet with the Earl of Blythe. Heloise intends to give the rake a piece of her mind and return home before anyone notices her absence, but the Earl has other plans. She is intrigued by the idea of one weekend of sin before a lifetime of boring respectability, and the Earl is in for more than he bargained for.

Heloise and Sebastian’s story is well-written and erotically charged. The love scenes are inventive and scorchingly hot, and it is particularly entertaining to read how Sebastian finds his honorable side and his befuddlement at being enslaved by a plain woman. Heloise is a strong woman with a firm sense of right and wrong, but very little sense of her own worth. She compares herself to her cousin and thinks less of herself than she should, particularly in the light of her cousin’s proclivities.
