Feeling big and awkward most of his life is hard on Marcus’s self-esteem, which is why he allowed himself to be in an abusive relationship for so long.

War takes its toll both physically and mentally on Raph. He prefers to keep those days in the past, but he does not deny it made him the man he is today.

Ending things with Dan is not as cut and dried as Marcus hoped, so getting out of the city with his friend Andy feels like a very good idea. A beautiful cabin tucked away in the wilderness is a far cry from New York, and meeting Raph is a world’s difference from what it was like with Dan. Raph shows him what it means to be cared for and respected, and Marcus revels in Raph’s attention. Leaving the past behind; however, is not always a straightforward matter.

Admitting to abuse is never easy, especially for a man like Marcus. Thankfully he has a very good friend in Andy who sees what he cannot. I really like that Andy, Raph, and the rest of the guys in Andy’s family never make light of Marcus’s feelings. No matter his size, everything he feels is valid, which makes his story very genuine and true.
