In the two years Cassie Masters has been personal assistant to Lucas Palmera, she has fallen for him. It is not the smartest thing she has ever done. Not only is he her boss, he is also next in line for the throne of San Torrevna. To hide her love for him, Cassie buries herself in work while preparing to take custody of her younger sister who suffers from Down syndrome.

Of course, Prince Lucas Palmera does not know this about his efficient, hard-working PA. When he finds himself in a difficult position, it is Cassie to who he immediately turns. Lucas’s father wishes to hand the rule of San Torrevna to his son so the king may marry a commoner. But he will not do so until Lucas can prove he is settled in his personal life.

In a manner typically royal, Lucas informs Cassie that she will have to masquerade as his fiancee in order to appease his father. Once San Torrevna is turned over to him, Lucas and Cassie will break off the engagement. Cassie knows their relationship is a sham and will have to be careful not to let herself get swept away in the fantasy. And for Lucas, getting swept away in the fantasy is the fun part. That is, until he begins to fall for Cassie.

It pains me to say it, but I just could not get into this one. I had high hopes given the premise, but from the start I felt as if I was being thrown into a story already in progress. The characters were unfortunately cliched: the gold-digging mother, the sainted heroine burdened with the care of her beloved, disabled sister, and the jaded hero whom (it pains me even more to say), came across as insensitive and selfish. And finally, there was a lot of internal thought that went over the same thing page after page. In the end, this book was not for me.
