Daisy is the successful author of a cookery and homemaker book and is currently on a cross-country speaking tour. She is very pretty but has little confidence in herself, mostly due to the put downs voiced by her manager, Conrad.

Owen is a widower with a young daughter. He is the owner of a successful livery stable and very serious in character. He is tall, handsome and muscular and determisimplyned never to marry again. He was once a bit of a scoundrel but the death of his wife changed all of that.

Daisy’s book tour is coming to an abrupt end when her manager gets a better offer. He rudely cancels her trip to Morrow Creek to see her brother, so she dumps him and sets off alone. She arrives to utter chaos; her brother has decided to raffle off her skills for a week. Some of the less savory characters in town have their own idea of what these services should be. Owen wins the raffle that he did not enter and finds himself with a week of cooking and housekeeping lessons from the most attractive woman he has ever met.

Ms. Plumley’s books are always full of humor and romance and this one is no exception. I have always loved her contemporary stories and her historicals are just as good. The inhabitants of Morrow Creek are unique and so very real they almost walk off the page. Owen and Daisy are complex characters with some very real difficulties. The resolution of these problems is the focus of a gripping plot that really held my interest.
