Paige Atwell may have the perfect family on the outside but on the inside things are quite the opposite. Her spouse, Paul, is always inundated with other matters, ten-year-old daughter, Chloe seems to be maturing in her actions too fast and son, Spencer is a whole different story. After her good friend, Karen confesses she is involved in a passionate affair with a man who is Spanish and dipped in chocolate and please do not judge her conduct, Paige wonders could things get anymore bizarre.

Karen, Paige’s friend, is tired of her hum-drum marriage without much of a sex life with husband, Doug and has started seeing Javier, a model in her art class.

Paige ponders on an extramarital cure wondering if it would be the answer to her marriage that seems to have gone stagnant until her friend confesses she is having a hot affair with an art student. Still when she sees all the passion that Karen is receiving she thinks how it would feel. She and Paul have fourteen years together but it is like a routine anymore. She loves Paul but wishes things could be different. Then she thinks about poor Doug who is clueless to the whole situation. After Karen is murdered, Paige cannot believe her good friend is gone, and who would commit the crime? Surely, not Javier, or even Doug, who could have found out about Karen’s infidelity, but when Paige discovers Doug has been having his own affair, he begins to appear more of a suspect to her each day. To some of the other coffee moms, they think perhaps Doug could have done the deed then covered it up to look like an accident. Paul believes she has been watching too many CSI programs. Still Paige is determined to uncover the truth to her friend’s murder even if she has to spill the beans about the whole sordid affair, including Doug’s. And when Javier begins to call her and bring her gifts, things begin to shift tremendously for this housewife.

The Secrets Desires of a Soccer Mom is an enchanting cross into a neighborhood similar to a Desperate Housewives episode. Paige is a delightful character who spins some fun into the pages while trying to spice up her life, understand her children, be a good friend to her neighbors and find a killer. I enjoyed the path she took as she did her investigating. Paul was a great husband, especially after he got his motor started, and I loved the ending. Ms. Harding has written a lively created piece into family life that hooked me from page one. This reader loved the interaction between Paige and Paul, not to mention the children and their antics. Toss in the other coffee moms, Doug and his little affair, and the elements in this storyline make one excellent afternoon of reading. Ms. Harding creates characters and a story that will not be forgotten.
