Kristin is a CPA and very down to earth and practical. She is intelligent and beautiful and very fond of her three courtesy aunts and their flower bedecked cottage.

Tennyson is a wizard and a scholar. He is tall, dark, handsome, and a bit grouchy.

Kristin is flabbergasted when she is told that her three aunts are retiring and going on a world cruise. She never believed in fairy godmothers, and now the aunts tell her that she is one and that she will be taking over for one of them. They tell her that she is a “Rare One” and that she is unusually powerful. Her arbiter will decide whether or not she is worthy of her new position. Tennyson, her arbiter is very handsome, but not the most sympathetic person to guide a new godmother. Things get more complicated when someone starts systematically attacking people associated with a rogue fairy who was imprisoned more than thirty years before. The aunts were instrumental in the case.

I got a different view of fairy godmothers from this story and loved Ms. Stevens’ take on them. I particularly liked it when Kristin studied from Grimm’s Fairy Tales. The characters are really well done, and I even had sympathy for the villain. The plot is fast moving and filled with unusual characters both human and other. Zach and his son are just as interesting as Callie the sprite. Kristin and Tennyson have a passionate but contentious romance that never failed to keep my interest, and the ending promises more stories to come.
