Mitch Turner is a man on the run. He has been accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and mother of his brother, Dutch’s, child. Born into a life of wealth and privilege, Mitch is living a life of hard work and little pay just to keep the eleven-year-old Julia safe from her father.

Denise--Neesy--Brown is a waitress at Crick’s, where Mitch is currently employed. She has not had an easy life, but she makes the best of it in Crossroads, Iowa. Then, a troubled man and his daughter roll into town and rock her foundation.

Mitch learned early to just stay away from his brother and his sick, twisted mind. When Mitch felt Julia’s life was in danger, he took the infant and ran. For eleven years, he has been able to stay hidden. Until the day he stopped to help a young girl who had jumped off a bridge in Crossroads, Iowa. Returning her to her family, Julia discovered a new friend and a new way of life. Being a stubborn child, she sank in with both feet and Mitch could not tell her no. Now a killer is on the prowl in Crossroads, and Mitch becomes suspect number one. After his escape from jail, he runs to Neesy. For some reason, Neesy believes in her bones that Mitch Turner is not the killer everyone thinks he is. She has to help prove his innocence and help him get Julia back from Dutch.

My mind is haunted by the images from within a killer’s mind. Annie Solomon gives the reader a glimpse of the demented nature of the beast and, let me tell you, it is not pretty by any means. Immediately, I fell for Mitch. He is a hero though he does not want to be. Then there is Julia, the sweet, stubborn little girl who shows such strength and determination. Neesy seems to be the perfect fit for both Mitch and Julia. It was not hard to figure out the killer, but I found myself holding my breath, waiting for what would happen next. A roller coaster ride of terror and pleasure, I am not sure which one I enjoyed more.
